If there is any binding or strong resistance, replace the plate.
1b. (Contactless ignition system without electronic control of ignition timing).
Check the distributor support plate ("breaker plate"). Rotate the support plate relative to the ignition timing sensor induction coil and make sure it moves with a slight drag. If it sticks or moves with increased resistance, replace the support plate together with the ignition timing sensor induction coil.

1v. (Contactless ignition system with electronic ignition timing control) Check the air gap.
Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap between the ignition timing sensor rotor and the induction coil of this sensor (0.2-0.4 mm). If the gap is less than the specified values, replace the ignition timing sensor induction coil, the centrifugal governor drive shaft, and the distributor housing assembly.

2. Check the drive roller (distributor or centrifugal regulator).
a) Turn the drive shaft to make sure that it has no burrs on the surface and is not worn. If there are signs of wear or a poor fit, replace the drive shaft and housing.
b) Use a feeler gauge to measure the axial clearance of the centrifugal ignition timing adjuster drive shaft (0.15-0.50 mm). If the clearance is outside the permissible limits, adjust the axial clearance (see below).

3. (Contact ignition system)
a) Check the distributor cap for cracks, carbon deposits, burns or corrosion of the electrodes and make sure that the center electrode is not worn.
b) Check the distributor rotor for cracks, soot deposits, burnt or corroded electrodes.
4. (If there is a centrifugal regulator)
Make sure that the centrifugal regulator weights do not jam when turning them on the mounting axles.
5. (If there is a vacuum regulator)
Check the vacuum advance adjuster to ensure that its mechanism moves freely when a small amount of pressure or vacuum is applied to the working diaphragm.
6. (Contact ignition system) Check the breaker cam by installing it on the distributor shaft and make sure that these parts fit together correctly. If not, replace the cam and/or distributor shaft.
(Contactless ignition system without electronic control of ignition timing)
Check the ignition timing sensor shaft.
Install the ignition timing sensor shaft onto the distributor shaft and make sure they fit tightly together. If not, replace the ignition timing sensor shaft, distributor shaft, or distributor housing.
