Replacing the driven gear
1. Remove driven gear.
A) File off the ledge of the driven gear connecting pin with a grinding stone, being careful not to damage the drive shaft.
b) Use a punch and hammer to knock out the connecting pin.
V) Remove the driven gear and thrust washer.
2. Remove the centrifugal drive shaft and thrust washer.
3. Install a new centrifugal governor drive shaft.
Apply a light coat of grease to the drive shaft, place a thrust washer on it, and slide the drive shaft into the distributor housing.
4. Install the new driven gear.
A) Slide the flat washer and driven gear onto the centrifugal ignition timing drive shaft.
b) Align the gear mark (not to be confused with the hole for the driven gear connecting pin) with a recess on the distributor housing.
Attention: the limiter in the distributor for the contact ignition system must be located as shown in the figure.
V) Install and secure the new connecting pin.
G) Using a feeler gauge, measure the axial clearance of the centrifugal governor drive shaft (0.15-0.50mm). If the gap differs from the specified, adjust it with thrust washers.
Thickness of thrust washers of distributors:
- for contact ignition system: 2.3 mm, 2.5 mm, 2.7 mm, 2.9 mm.
- for contactless ignition system: 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.6 mm.
d) Unrive the connecting pin.
