- Loosen the wheel nuts, place the rear of the car on stands and remove the wheel.
- Unscrew the brake pipe on one side of the brake shield (only with drum brakes). For disc brakes, unscrew the brake caliper without unscrewing the brake hose. Attach the brake caliper to a piece of wire on the rear suspension so that it hangs from the brake hose.
- Remove the brake drum or brake disc. Using a socket with an extension, unscrew the four bracket hub nuts through the holes in the hub flange, similarly as shown in Figure 213 for a drum brake

- Remove the wheel hub complete with brake shield. Remove the O-ring. The handbrake cable remains connected to the brake shield.
