Figure 210 shows the parts involved in removing and installing the wheel hub on a vehicle with rear drum brakes. Figure 211 shows the differences when equipping the rear wheels with disc brakes.

  • Loosen the wheel nuts, place the rear of the car on stands and remove the wheel.
  • Unscrew the brake pipe from one side of the brake shield (only with drum brakes). For disc brakes, unscrew the brake caliper without unscrewing the brake hose. Attach the brake caliper to a piece of wire on the rear suspension so that it hangs from the brake hose.
  • Remove the brake drum or brake disc. Using a socket with an extension, unscrew the four bracket hub nuts through the holes in the hub flange, as shown in Figure 213 for a drum brake

  • Remove the wheel hub complete with the brake shield. Remove the sealing ring. The handbrake cable should remain connected to the brake shield.
