- Removing the shock absorber strut is carried out as follows. There are almost no differences in design between drum and disc brakes.
- Place the rear of the car on stands and remove the rear wheels.
- Depending on the car model, remove either the rear seat and the side trim (sedan), or only side cladding (coupe).
- Unscrew the union nuts of the brake pipe of the wheel brake cylinder, pull out the pipe and close the end accordingly (only for drum brakes). Remove the spring clip from the hose. Pull the hose out of the bracket.
- Remove the strut column trim and loosen the nut in the middle of the shock absorber strut without unscrewing the nut.
- From the bottom side of the shock-absorbing strut, unscrew the 2 nuts and bolts of the strut from the wheel hub bracket, as shown in Figure 217. Slowly press the hub bracket down until the shock-absorbing strut is free.

- Unscrew the stabilizer link from the shock absorber strut.
- Remove the 3 nuts on the upper suspension strut support.
- Pull the shock absorber strut down. Have an assistant hold the shock absorber strut, as it may fall after unscrewing the last nut.
