The task of the fuel vapor recovery system (EVAP) is the removal of fuel vapors that are chipped in the fuel tank and the cavities of the power system tract during parking to a special coal adsorber, from which, after starting the engine, they are discharged into the intake pipeline and burned in the combustion chambers.
The most common symptom of an EVAP system malfunction is a strong smell of gasoline in the vehicle's engine compartment. if such a smell appears, you should immediately check the condition of the carbon adsorber located in the front of the compartment (refer to accompanying illustration). Check the adsorber housing and fitting connections of the hoses connected to it for cracks and other mechanical damage.
A detailed description of the design and principle of operation of the EVAP system is given in Chapter Engine management and emission control systems.
