Positions on the exterior lighting switch handle: (OFF – off, TAIL – rear lights, HEAD – headlights).
Positions on the headlight switch handle: (Flash – off, Low – low beam, Higt – high beam).
Positions on the handle of the wiper and wiper switch: (Mist – fog, Off – off, Int-alternating mode with glass washing, Lo – low speed, Hi – high speed of the brushes, On-on).
Positions on the turn signal and hazard warning light switch handle: (L – left, R – right, N – straight (turns off), On – turns on the hazard warning lights).

Switch positions: (Mist – fog (condensation on glass), Off - off, Int-alternating mode with glass washing, Lo – low speed, Hi – high speed of brushes, On – on).
Windscreen wiper switch positions: (Off – off, Int – alternating mode with glass washing).
Windscreen washer switch positions: (Off – off, On – on).
Examination
1. Locate the steering column switch combination connectors by following the wires and disconnect them from the harnesses.
2. Use an ohmmeter or test lamp to check for continuity between the specified terminals in different switch positions. Replace the switch if the results of at least one of the tests are negative.
Switch replacement
1. Disconnect the battery from ground.
2. Remove the steering wheel.
3. Remove the steering column cover.
4. Disconnect the combination switch connector.
5. Remove the screws and the switch combination from the steering shaft (the screws for fastening the switch combination on FJ80 vehicles are indicated by arrows in the illustration, on other models the screw arrangement is the same).
6. Remove the switch in question and replace it by unscrewing the screws or removing the pins.
7. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.
