Removing
1. Jack up the car.
2. Remove the front wheel.
3. Disconnect the brake hose retainer.
4. (Models with ABS) Disconnect the wheel speed sensor wire.
5. Remove the spring.
A) Loosen the center nut on the damper rod.
b) Loosen the two shock absorber mounting nuts.
V) Disconnect the shock absorber assembly.
G) Compress the spring with the special tool.
Note:
- Do not attach the special tool to the upper and lower coils of the spring.
- Do not use pneumatic tools for this operation.
d) Unscrew the central nut from the shock absorber rod and remove:
- Upper shock absorber.
- Bearing.
- Upper spring seat.
- Spring compression stroke limiter.
Examination
When pulling out and sinking the shock absorber rod, make sure that its stroke is smooth and there is no extraneous resistance and noise. If defective, replace shock absorber.
Installation
1. Using the special tool, compress the spring.
Attention:
- Do not use pneumatic tools for this operation.
- A hydraulic tool can be used to compress the spring.
2. Install the spring onto the strut, aligning the groove in the bottom stanchion seat with the bottom coil of the spring.
Attention: the lower coil of the spring must be of a smaller diameter.
3. Install the following items:
- Spring compression stroke limiter.
- Upper spring seat.
- Bearing.
- Upper shock absorber.
4. Compress and orient the damper rod as shown.
5. Align the groove in the top seat of the strut with the coil of the spring.
6. Temporarily screw the center nut onto the damper rod.
- Tightening torque - 54 - 74 Nm
7. Install the shock absorber by tightening the two nuts.
- Tightening torque - 30 - 44 Nm
Note: When installing, orient the uprights as shown in the illustration.
8. (Models with ABS) Install the wheel speed sensor wire.
9. Connect the brake hose.
- Tightening torque - 17 - 25 Nm
10. Install the front wheel.
- Tightening torque - 88 - 118 Nm
11. Stabilize the suspension by rocking the vehicle up and down and finally tighten the suspension mounting nuts.
12. Check up and if necessary adjust corners of installation of forward wheels.
