Vehicle check
1. Jack up the car.
2. Remove the front wheel.
3. Disconnect the brake hose retainer.
4. Hang the brake caliper on the wire.
Note: Do not damage the brake hose.
5. Remove the brake disc.
Note: Do not drop the brake disc.
6. (Models with ABS)
Disconnect the wheel speed sensor wire.
7. Check the axial clearance of the bearing.
A) Make sure there is not too much play between the drive shaft and the front axle hub.
b) Use a dial gauge to check the bearing end play.
- Maximum clearance - 0.05 mm
If the bearing clearance exceeds the specified value, replace the bearing.
8. Check hub runout.
- Maximum runout - 0.05 mm
If the runout is greater than the specified value, replace the hub.
Removing
1. Using a special tool, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
Note: do not damage the thread.
2. Loosen and unscrew the nut securing the drive shaft to the hub.
Front axle hub.
1 - tie rod end,
2 - nut for fastening the drive shaft to the hub,
3 - lower suspension arm,
4 - hub,
5 - steering knuckle,
6 - wheel speed sensor rotor,
7 - retaining ring,
8 - bearing.
3. Using a special tool, disconnect the lower suspension arm from the steering knuckle.
Note: do not damage the thread.
4. Using a plastic hammer, disconnect the drive shaft from the hub and remove the hub and steering knuckle assembly.
5. Disconnect the hub from the steering knuckle using a special tool.
6. Using the special tool, remove the bearing race from the hub.
7. Press out the bearing, having fixed a rotary fist as it is shown in drawing.
Installation
1. Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
2. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment.
3. (Models with ABS)
Check wheel speed sensor.
