Common type of spark plugs
Note: Depending on the configuration, spark plugs with two electrodes can be installed.
1. Disconnect high voltage wires from spark plugs.
2. Remove the spark plugs, use a 16mm spark plug wrench.
3. Clean the spark plugs with a sandblaster or wire brush.
4. Visually inspect the condition of the spark plugs for worn electrodes, damaged threads, or (And) insulator. Replace spark plugs if necessary.
Recommended spark plugs:
- ND - K20R-U11
- NGK - BKR6EYA11
5 Adjust the gap between the electrodes by bending only the side electrode.
Nominal clearance value:
- 3S-FE, 4S-FE, 5E-FE - 1.1mm
- 7A-FE and 4A-FE - 0.8mm
6. Install the spark plugs by tightening them. (M318 N·m).
7. Connect the high voltage wires to the spark plugs.
3S-GE engine and 4A-FE engine (with Lean burn system) With "platinum" spark plugs.
Note: Depending on the configuration, spark plugs with two electrodes can be installed.
Note:
- Never use a wire brush to clean this type of spark plug.
- Never attempt to adjust the gap on a used spark plug.
- Spark plugs should be replaced every 100,000 km of the car.
1. Remove the spark plug wire guard.
2. Disconnect the high voltage wires from the spark plugs.
3. Check spark plug electrodes.
If you have a megger, measure the electrical resistance of the insulator.
- Rated resistance not less than 10 MΩ
If the resistance is less than acceptable, clean the spark plug.
In the absence of a megger
- A) Rapidly increase the engine speed to 4000 rpm five times
- b) Remove spark plugs (see above).
- V) Visually assess the condition of the spark plug.
If the electrodes are dry, then the test can be completed.
If the electrodes are wet, then it is necessary to move to the next position.
4. Visually check the condition of the spark plugs for damage to the threads, insulator and electrodes. Replace the spark plugs if there is any abnormality.
Recommended spark plugs:
- 4A-FE (with Lean burn system):
- ND - PK20R13
- NGK - BKR6EP13
- 3S-GE:
- ND - PK20R8
- NGK - BKR6EP8
5. Check the gap between the electrodes.
Gap between electrodes:
- 4A-FE (with lean boom system):
- The maximum allowable gap is 1.5 mm
- Nominal clearance - 1.3 mm
- 3S-GE:
- The maximum allowable gap is 1.0 mm
- Nominal clearance - 0.8 mm
If the gap is greater than the maximum, replace the spark plug.
The gap adjustment of a new candle must be carried out by bending only the side electrode at the base. Do not touch the center electrode.
Note: When adjusting the gap, do not rest the tool on the center electrode or insulator.
6. Clean spark plugs.
If the electrodes show traces of wet carbon deposits, dry them and then remove them with a suitable solvent. If the electrodes have traces of oil, then first remove them with gasoline.
Then clean the spark plugs with a spark plug cleaner, blowing air at a pressure not exceeding 588 kPa (6 kg/cm2) for no more than 20 seconds.
7. Wrap the spark plugs.
- Tightening torque - 18 Nm
8. Connect the high voltage wires to the spark plugs and reinstall the spark plug wire guard.
