The conventional type fusible inserts described below are used on models of early production years, later cartridge type inserts began to be used. Cartridge fuses are placed in the fuse / relay mounting block located in the engine compartment and look like large fuses; they are replaced in the same way (see Section Fuses - general information), with the only difference being that you must first disconnect the negative cable from the battery. To fix some fusible links, a screw is used, which must be unscrewed before removing the element.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
Failed fuse-links of the usual type are not subject to refurbishment. Make sure that the replacement element is fully consistent with its nominal characteristics of the failed one. Replacement is carried out in the following order:
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
- Disconnect the fusible link from the wiring harness;
- Use the side cutters to bite off the insert from the wire directly behind the connector;
- Strip the insulation of the electrical wiring, exposing the conductor in an area of approximately 13 mm;
- Move the connector to a new fuse-link and, twisting the wiring, install the assembly in its regular place;
- Properly solder and carefully insulate the joints of the electrical wiring;
- Connect the negative cable to the battery and verify that the appropriate electrical circuit is functioning correctly.
