Warning! The models of vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS). Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see section Airbags - General Information). The SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.

Warning! If the car stereo system is equipped with a security code, make sure you have the correct combination to activate the audio system before disconnecting the battery!

Examination

Location of the direction indicator/hazard warning flasher

The turn signal/hazard warning flasher is located under the lower left section of the instrument panel trim (refer to the illustration above).

The correct functioning of the breaker is confirmed by a clearly audible rhythmic clicking. If one of the indicators fails, the frequency of the breaker operation doubles, informing the driver of the need to replace the failed lamp/lamps.

Simultaneous failure of both indicators with a high degree of probability indicates the failure of the corresponding fuse in the internal mounting block. It is also possible that the breaker itself or the steering column switch has failed. Check the condition of the contact connections of the electrical wiring of the corresponding circuit. If the fuse has blown out, check the electrical wiring for signs of a short circuit, check the electrical connection diagrams (see section Electrical Wiring Diagrams - General Information).

Replacement

Breaker

1. Remove the left lower section of the instrument panel trim (see chapter Body) and disconnect the wiring from the breaker assembly and remove the breaker.

2. Make sure that the replacement breaker matches the size of the faulty one.

3. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Hazard warning switch

Using a pry bar, release the switch assembly from the instrument panel and disconnect the electrical wiring from the switch.
