The considered ones have permanent all-wheel drive and are equipped with an HF2A or HF2AV transfer case installed directly behind the AT. The engine torque is transmitted through the transmission and transfer case to the front and rear axle shafts by means of cardan shafts.
The compilers of this Guide do not recommend that motorists make attempts at home to independently perform the restoration repair of a failed transfer case. The work requires special tools and a certain qualification of the performer. It should be noted that at Toyota car service stations it is always possible to purchase a remanufactured transfer case assembly relatively inexpensively on an exchange basis.
