Regulator status monitoring
1. Remove the regulator cover.
2. Check the condition of the contact surfaces (burning and damage).
If there are defects, replace the regulator.
3. Check the resistance between the terminals.
A) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals "IG" And "F".
Resistance (voltage regulator):
- at rest - 0 ohm
- retracted approximately - 11 ohm
b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals "L" And "E".
Resistance (voltage relay):
- at rest - 0 ohm
- retracted approximately - 100 ohms
V) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals "IN" And "E".
Resistance (voltage relay):
- at rest - infinity
- retracted - about 100 ohms
G) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals "IN" And "L".
Resistance (voltage relay):
- at rest - infinity
- retracted - 0 ohm
d) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals "N" And "E".
Resistance is about 24 ohms.
4. Adjust the generator controller.
A) Adjust the voltage regulator by bending the regulator adjustment lever.
Regulation voltage - 13.8-14.8 V
b) Adjust the voltage relay by bending the relay adjustment lever.
Regulation voltage - 4.0-5.8 V
5. Replace the regulator cover.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Possible reason | Corrective action |
The battery discharge indicator lamp does not light when "ON" starter key, but the engine is not running. The crankshaft does not rotate. | The fuse has blown. The signal lamp burned out. Wire connection broken. The relay regulator is faulty. The electronic regulator is defective. | Check fuses. Replace lamp. Tighten loose connection. Check the regulator relay. Replace electronic regulator. |
The battery discharge warning light does not turn off when the engine is running (battery needs to be recharged frequently). | Loose or worn drive belt. Loose, corroded or worn battery wires. The fuse has blown. The fusible link burned out. Faulty alternator regulator, electronic voltage regulator or alternator. | Adjust or replace drive belt. Repair or replace wires. Replace fuse. Replace fusible link. Check the charging system. |
