Assembling the piston-connecting rod unit [Toyota Duet M100]

Note: pistons of KZ series engines are different. Do not make a mistake with the choice during installation.


1. Assemble the connecting rod and piston group.

a) Apply a small amount of engine oil to the piston pin and into the piston boss bore. Align the "front" marks on the piston and connecting rod.



b) Install the piston pin in the special tool.



c) Press in the piston pin using a hydraulic press.



c) Make sure that the piston rotates freely on the piston pin.



2. Install the piston rings.

a) Install the expander and two oil scraper ring scrapers.



b) Using a piston ring expander, install two compression rings; and the ring marks ("T" or "R") should be facing upwards, as shown in the figure.



c) Install the piston rings in the grooves so that their locks are located as shown in the figure.

Note: Do not align the ring locks.




KZ series.
1 - expander lock,
2 - compression ring lock No.1,
3 - upper oil scraper ring lock,
4 - compression ring lock No.2,
5 - lock of the lower scraper of the oil scraper ring.

EJ series.
1 - compression ring lock No.2,
2 - lower oil scraper ring lock,
3 - oil scraper ring expander lock,
4 - compression ring lock No.1,
5 - lock of the lower scraper of the oil scraper ring.


3. Install the connecting rod bearing shells.

a) Align the bearing shell projection with the recess in the lower connecting rod head and with its cover.

b) Insert the liners into the lower connecting rod head and into the connecting rod cap.
