Removal



1. Disconnect the propeller shaft.

2. Remove the drum.

a) Bend back the caulked part of the nut using a hammer and chisel.

b) Unscrew the nut and remove the washer.

c) Release the parking brake lever.

d) Remove the drum.

Note: If you have difficulty removing the brake drum, turn the adjusting device toward the release side until the drum is released.


3. Remove the two return springs,

a) Remove the two return springs from the top of the brake shield, then separate the washer.



b) Remove the return spring on the right side.



b) Remove the return springs from the bottom side.



4. Remove the right brake shoe.



a) Remove the retaining spring, two caps and the holder.

b) Remove the shoe.

5. Remove the brake shoe spacer plate and spring.

6. Remove the left brake shoe and the brake shoe release lever.

a) Remove the retaining spring, two caps and the holder.

b) Using pliers, disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever and remove the spring.

7. Remove the adjusting device.

6. If necessary, disconnect the brake shoe release lever from the shoe.

Checking components



1. Measure the inside diameter of the brake drum.
  • Maximum internal diameter: 178.0 mm
  • Nominal internal diameter: 177.0 mm

If the drum is scored or worn, the brake drum can be machined on a lathe.

2. Measure the thickness of the brake pad linings.
  • Maximum thickness: 1.5 mm
  • Nominal thickness: 3.6 mm

If the pad lining thickness is less than the minimum or shows signs of uneven wear, replace the brake pads.

3. Check the contact between the pads and the brake drum.

4. Replace bolts if necessary.

a) Unscrew the bolts.

b) Insert new bolts into the brake drum.

c) Finally install the bolts as shown in the figure.

Assembly



Note: The assembled parts should look like the picture.




1. Apply high temperature grease to the brake shield as shown in the figure.



2. Install the brake shoe release lever onto the brake shoes.



3. Install the adjusting device.

4. Install the left brake shoe with the shoe release lever.

a) Using pliers, connect the parking brake cable to the brake shoe release lever.

b) Install the shoe with the lever on the brake shield.

c) Install the retaining spring, caps and holder.

5. Install the right brake shoe.

a) Install the block on the shield.

b) Install the retaining spring, caps and holder.

6. Install the brake shoe spacer plate and spring.

7. Install the return springs.

a) Install the return spring on the bottom side of the brake shield.

b) Install the return spring on the right side.

c) Install the washer and return spring from the top side.

8. Install the brake drum.

a) Turn the adjusting device until the pads are completely unlocked.

b) Install the brake drum.

c) Install the washer and tighten the nut.
  • Tightening torque: 127 Nm

d) Turn the adjuster until the pads are fully spread, then turn the adjuster one tooth in the opposite direction.

e) With the shoes fully extended, make sure the drum is locked.

h) Release the parking brake lever and make sure that the parking brake does not stick. If it does, turn the adjuster one more notch.

7. Caulk the nut.

8. Connect the propeller shaft.

9. Check and adjust the parking brake.
