Rear brakes (DYNA 150) — removal [Toyota Dyna Y50]

1. Remove the rear wheel.

2. Remove the brake drum.

a) (Single tires) Remove the brake drum.

b) (Twin tires) Remove the axle shaft and remove the brake drum assembly with the hub.

Note: If you have difficulty removing the brake drum, do the following.


(With automatic gap adjuster)

a) Insert a screwdriver through the hole in the brake shield and hold the adjustment lever as far away from the automatic slack adjuster nut as possible.

b) Using another screwdriver, tighten the adjusting bolt towards the release side of the brake pad adjusting mechanism.



(Without automatic gap adjuster)

c) Insert a screwdriver through the hole in the brake shield and turn the adjusting nut towards releasing the brake shoe adjusting mechanism.

3. Remove the front and rear return springs using the tool.

4. Remove the retaining spring, two caps and the holder. Then remove the upper shoe. The lower shoe is removed in the same way.

5. If necessary, remove the wheel cylinder.

a) Remove the retainer and disconnect the brake pipe.

Note: Place a container underneath to catch the drained liquid.


b) Disconnect the bleed nipple from the front wheel cylinder.

c) Unscrew the four bolts and remove the wheel cylinder.

6. If necessary, disassemble the wheel cylinder in the following order:

(With automatic gap adjuster) screw and clamp, adjusting bolt and nut, dust seal, seat, wheel cylinder piston assembly and automatic adjuster lever with spring, two dust boots, two spring seats, return spring.



(Without automatic clearance adjuster, with small diameter brake drums) regulator screw and locking lever, adjusting bolt and nut, piston, two caps, two spring seats, return spring.
