Removing the oil cooler and bypass valves
1. Drain the coolant from the engine (see section "Cooling system").
2. (For engines with fuel injection) Remove the EGR valve, pipe, valve actuator and check valve assembly.
3. Remove the exhaust manifold.
4. Remove the oil filter (see relevant paragraph).
5. Remove bypass valves. Remove the plug, gasket, spring and bypass valve.
Note: Arrange springs and relief valves in the order in which they were removed.
6. Remove the oil cooler housing and oil filter bracket Remove the oil cooler, filter bracket and gasket.
7. Separate the oil cooler and filter bracket. Remove the four nuts, oil cooler and two gaskets from the filter bracket.
Monitoring the condition of the oil cooler and bypass valves
1. Check the bypass valve. Apply a layer of engine oil to the valve and check that it moves smoothly down in the oil filter bracket under its own weight. If this condition is not met, replace the bypass valve. If necessary, replace the oil filter bracket.
1, 2, 4, 7 - gasket,
3 - oil cooler,
5 - oil filter bracket,
6 - oil filter,
8 - spring,
9 - bypass valve.
2. Check the oil cooler. Check the oil cooler for damage or blockage. If necessary, replace the oil cooler.
Installing the oil cooler and bypass valves
1. Assemble the oil cooler and oil filter bracket.
Install new gaskets and oil cooler to filter bracket with four nuts.
- Tightening torque - 14 Nm
2. Install the oil cooler housing with a new gasket and the oil filter bracket.
Tightening torques
- bolt - 19 Nm
- nut - 21 Nm
Reminder: Type A, B and C bolt lengths shown in the illustration are: A - 50 mm; B - 35 mm; C - 25 mm.
3. Install bypass valves. Install bypass valve, spring and new gasket with plug.
- Tightening torque - 36 Nm
4. Install the exhaust manifold.
5. (For engines with fuel injection) Install the EGR valve, pipe, actuator and check valve assembly.
6. Fill in engine coolant.
13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
14. Check engine oil level (see relevant paragraph).
