Adjusting the idle speed [Toyota Carina T170]

The idle speed adjustment is 100% perfect if the amount of fuel injected at idle speed is adjusted. This adjustment can only be made using special devices. However, general control and temporary adjustment to ensure engine starting can be made by following the instructions below. Good - idle speed is set only with correctly adjusted valve clearances and injection timing. The diesel engine speed meter should be connected in accordance with the manufacturer's operating instructions.

• Before adjusting idle speed, warm up the engine to operating temperature.
• Turn off all electrical consumers. The fan should not be turned on either. The air filter should be installed.
• Start the engine and read the idle speed. If it is more than 700 rpm, check whether the adjusting lever touches the adjusting screw with the accelerator pedal fully depressed. Otherwise, adjust the idle speed.
• Loosen the idle speed adjustment screw lock nut at the location shown in Figure 322 (with a regular key), and use the second key to turn the adjusting bolt until the specified idle speed is obtained. Tighten the lock nut again.

Increase the speed and check that after releasing the gas pedal the engine returns to idle speed. If this does not happen, the length of the gas rod must be adjusted. The high-pressure fuel pump lever with the gas pedal released must rest against the end of the adjusting bolt.
