- Removal and installation If a new high-pressure fuel pump is installed, all parts of the injection device should be checked.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Disconnect the throttle cable from the high pressure fuel pump.
- Disconnect the following hoses: The two bypass hoses and, if installed, the air conditioning hose.
- Unscrew the injection inlet pipe. It is secured with a ring lock.
- After releasing the clamp, disconnect the fuel outlet hose.
- Unscrew the bolt and nut securing the heater pipe.
- Disconnect the 4 injection pipes. To do this, unscrew the nuts that secure the 4 tubes to the intake manifold, release the clamp clamps and unscrew the union nuts. To do this, it is better to use a socket wrench with a slot through which the tube can pass. Do not tear off the edges of the union nut heads.
- Remove the timing belt as described in Chapter 16.1.1. At the same time, the drive gear of the high-pressure fuel pump is also removed.
- Check the position of the mark in the place shown in Figure 321 (on the water pump). If the marks are not visible, rotate the pump and mounting points in the indicated manner. Adjusting the high-pressure fuel pump is a complex job that is best done in a workshop, however, once installed, the engine will start easily if it is adjusted to the marks. Adjustments should only be made when the engine is not operating as it should.
Pic. 321. Installed high pressure fuel pump. Before crushing, apply a mark on the pump in the indicated location.
- Unscrew the bolts and two nuts, remove the rear pump console (4 bolts) and pull out the pump.
Installation of the high pressure fuel pump is carried out in the following sequence:
- Place the pump in the correct position and turn it so that the marks on the pump and on the water pump are aligned as shown in Figure 321. Finger tighten both nuts and the bolt. Final tightening is done after installing the rear console. Install the console and tighten the 4 bolts to a torque of 20 Nm. After this, the bolts and nuts on the other side can be tightened with the same torque.
- Install the high pressure fuel pump drive gear and timing belt as described in Chapter 17.1.1, with installation of the timing belt cover.
- Connect the inlet pipe to the high pressure fuel pump. Install new sealing washers and secure the tube with a hollow bolt. Install and secure the fuel hose with a clamp.
- Fix the fuel outlet pipe in the same way, but tighten the union nut here. Put on and secure the hose with a clamp.
- Screw on 4 injection pipes (see next chapter).
- Connect the throttle cable. Make sure that the fuel pump is set to the full throttle position and returns to the idle position.
- The rest of the work is done in reverse order.
