- Disconnect the connector from the filter switch and unscrew the switch using a pipe wrench, as shown in Figure 320.

- Unscrew the filter with a filter wrench, as is done when unscrewing an oil filter. Unscrew the filter completely and remove the O-ring.
- Place a new O-ring into the filter groove and rub some diesel fuel into it.
- Screw the filter onto the filter base until you feel resistance. From this position, tighten the filter another 3/4 turn, either by hand or with a filter wrench.
- Screw on the filter switch with a new gasket, tightening only by hand, not with a wrench. Connect the connector.
- Pump the handle of a hand pump from the top side of the filter until noticeable resistance appears. This is a sign that the filter is completely full.
