Servicing the ignition distributor [Toyota Carina T170]
Regularly clean the distributor cap inside and out to remove traces of carbon, dust and moisture. Use a rag soaked in gasoline for cleaning. While cleaning, check for cracks on the cap. If the runner contacts are heavily worn, replace the runner. Brass contacts must not be cleaned with a file or ground. To lubricate the distributor bearing, with the cap removed, drip two or three drops of oil from the inside of the distributor shaft. Keep the outer surfaces of the high-voltage wires clean and dry to ensure flawless electrical connections in the ignition system. From time to time, remove all wires from the ignition distributor, clean and check the contacts. Do not shorten the wires to clean the ends of the connections. In these cases, be sure to replace the wires.
