Vacuum brake booster — removal and installation [Toyota Carina T190]

Removal



1. Remove the brake master cylinder. (See section "Master brake cylinder").

2. Remove the air conditioner pipe.

Note: Discharge the air conditioning system.


(See chapter "Air conditioning, heating and ventilation").

3. Remove the vacuum tube.



4. Remove the two fittings.
  • Tightening torque - 16 Nm



5. Remove the idle speed boost control valve when the heater is switched on.

a) Disconnect the connector.

b) Unscrew the bolt and remove the valve.



6. Remove the wiring harness cover.





7. Remove the throttle valve control cable (automatic transmission).

8. Disconnect the brake pipe.
  • Tightening torque - 16 Nm



9. Remove the driver's side lower trim panel and heater assembly.

10. Remove the brake light switch.

11. Remove the spring, clamp and fork axle.



12. Remove the brake pedal bracket.

a) (Models with adjustable steering column angle).



Disconnect the bracket from the steering column.



b) Unscrew the bolt and four nuts and remove the brake pedal bracket.

Tightening torque:
  • Bolt - 19 Nm
  • Nuts - 13 Nm



13. (Models with manual transmission).

Remove the clutch master cylinder (see chapter "Clutch").

14. Remove the vacuum booster assembly.

Installation



1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

2. Please refer to the assembly drawing when installing.

3. After installation, check the operation of the brake booster.

4. Charge the air conditioning system with refrigerant.
