Front axle wheel bearing play check
Pic. 3.95. Front axle wheel bearing play check
Using a dial gauge, measure the play near the center of the wheel hub (pic. 3.95).
Maximum allowable value: 0.05 mm.
If the play exceeds the maximum allowable value, the bearing must be replaced.
Note. Make sure the indicator probe is perpendicular to the surface being measured.
Checking the radial runout of the wheel bearings of the front axle
Pic. 3.96. Checking the radial runout of the wheel bearings of the front axle
Using a dial gauge, measure the radial runout on the wheel hub surface outside of the hub bolt center circle (pic. 3.96).
Maximum allowable value: 0.05 mm.
If the radial runout exceeds the maximum allowable value, the bearing must be replaced.
Note. Make sure the indicator probe is perpendicular to the surface being measured.
Checking the backlash of the wheel bearings of the rear axle
Pic. 3.97. Checking the backlash of the wheel bearings of the rear axle
Using a dial gauge, measure the play near the center of the wheel hub (pic. 3.97).
Maximum allowable value: 0.05 mm.
If the play exceeds the maximum allowable value, the hub must be replaced.
Note. Make sure the indicator probe is perpendicular to the surface being measured.
Checking the radial runout of the rear axle wheel bearings
Pic. 3.98. Checking the radial runout of the rear axle wheel bearings
Using a dial gauge, measure the radial runout on the surface of the wheel hub outside of the hub bolt (pic. 3.98).
Maximum allowable value: 0.07 mm.
If the radial runout exceeds the maximum allowable value, the hub must be replaced.
Note. Make sure the indicator probe is perpendicular to the surface being measured.
