Checking the oil level in a manual transmission
Stop the vehicle on level ground.
Unscrew the filler plug of the gearbox and remove the gasket.
Pic. 3.79. Checking the oil level in a manual transmission
Make sure that the oil level is no more than 5 mm below the lower edge of the inner surface of the gearbox filler hole (pic. 3.79).
Note. Too much or too little oil can damage the gearbox.
Note. After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and check the oil level.
Note. If the oil level is low, check for leaks.
Note. Install a new gasket and tighten the gearbox filler plug.
Note. Tightening torque: C251 A, C251 - 39 Nm, E358 - 49 Nm.
Checking the shift lock solenoid valve
Disconnect the test lamp connector.
Pic. 3.80. Measuring the resistance of the shift lock solenoid valve
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 6 (pic. 3.80).
Resistance: 30 to 35 ohms at 20°C.
If the resistance is not within specification, the shift lever assembly must be replaced.
Pic. 3.81. Checking the operation of the solenoid valve
Check the operation of the solenoid valve by a characteristic sound when applying battery voltage to terminals 2 and 6 (pic. 3.81).
If the solenoid valve is defective, the shift lever assembly must be replaced.
Connect a socket of a control lamp.
Check of the main switch of operating modes of a transmission
Disconnect the test lamp connector.
Set the gear lever to position M.
Pic. 3.82. Measuring the resistance of the main switch of modes of operation of the gearbox in position M
Measure the resistance with an ohmmeter (valid values are shown in the following table) (pic. 3.82).
Verification conditions
Set the shift lever to position E.
Pic. 3.83. Measuring the resistance of the main transmission mode switch in position E
Measure the resistance with an ohmmeter (valid values are shown in the following table) (pic. 3.83).
Verification conditions
If the resistance is not as specified, the shift lever assembly must be replaced.
Connect a socket of a control lamp.
Checking the Gear Select Sensor
Disconnect the gear select sensor connector.

Measure the resistance with an ohmmeter (valid values are shown in the following table) (pic. 3.84).
Verification conditions
If the resistance is not as specified, the shift lever assembly must be replaced.
Connect the gear select sensor connector.
