Installation details of the rear axle shaft and hub
1. Release the parking brake. Jack up the back of the car and place it on jack stands. Support the front wheels with wheel chocks. Details of the axle shaft installation are shown in the illustration above.
2. On ABS equipped models, remove the wheel sensor. (see chapter Brake system).
3. Remove the brake assembly (see chapter Brake system).
4. Disconnect the parking brake cable and hydraulic line from the wheel cylinder (see chapter Brake system).
5. Give four nuts of fastening of a back plate of a semiaxis to a case of the back bridge.
6. Remove the axle shaft from the axle housing, try not to damage the oil seal.
7. Remove the o-ring from its groove in the end face of the crankcase.
8. Prying with a large screwdriver, or using a special tool, remove the axle shaft seal (refer to accompanying illustration).
9. Further disassembly of the rear axle requires the use of special tools, including a hydraulic press, and should be entrusted to a car service specialist.
10. Using an end head of a suitable size or a piece of pipe of the appropriate diameter as a mandrel, put a new half shaft oil seal into the axle housing, lubricate the oil seal lips with universal grease.
11. Lightly lubricated with oil, install a new O-ring.
12. Assess the condition of the surface of the axle shaft, remove burrs and burrs that can damage the oil seal. Lightly lubricate the axle shaft with clean oil and fill it into the axle housing, being careful not to damage the oil seal with splines.
13. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of the dismantling of the components. Make sure the end plate mounting nuts are tightened to the correct torque.
