1. Use a scraper to remove the remaining gasket from the surface of the cylinder block gas joint.

2. Using a soft brush and solvent, clean the cylinder block.

3. Using a precision straightedge and feeler gauge, check the cylinder block-to-head joint surface for warpage (non-flatness).
  • Maximum flatness - 0.05 mm

If the flatness is greater, replace the block.

4. Visually check for vertical scratches. If deep scratches are present, all four cylinders must be bored.

5. Using an indicator, measure the cylinder diameter in sections A, B and C in the axial and transverse directions.

Cylinder diameter:

Nominal - 86,000 - 86,030 mm

Maximum allowable - 86.23 mm

Increased repair dimensions:
  • + 0.50 mm - 86.73 mm
  • + 0.75 mm - 86.98 mm
  • + 1.00 mm - 87.23 mm

If the diameter is greater than the maximum allowable, bore all four cylinders. If necessary, replace the cylinder block.

6. If the wear is less than 0.2 mm, use a reamer to remove the ridge formed by the first compression ring at the top of the cylinder.
