The rear axle of the all-wheel drive TOYOTA COROLLA TERCEL has independent shock absorber struts in the form of coil springs with shock absorbers inside them. To remove the coil springs, you must first remove the shock absorbers.
Removal
Place the car on a lift.
Place a hydraulic jack under the rear beam, place it under the differential.
In the passenger compartment, remove the covers from the upper parts of the shock absorbers. Release the nuts and lock nuts. In this case, the rear beam will lower onto the supports.
Unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolt on the beam and remove the shock absorber.
Remove the bolts securing the two stabilizer struts from the rear axle housing.
Loosen the crossbar mounting nut. Remove the bar from the axle.
Lower the supports a little lower, slowly lower the lift. With help, remove the bridge, making sure not to stretch the brake hose and handbrake cable.
Remove the coil spring from the upper and lower supports.
Installation
Place the top plate on the spring.
Install the spring. Make sure that it is correctly positioned in the groove of the lower plate.
Raise the rear axle.
Install the rear axle cross member in the following sequence. Install the washer, bushing, spacer washer, rod, bushing, washer and nut onto the journal. Tighten the nut by hand, but do not tighten it.
Install the shock absorber. Tighten the nut on the upper support with a force of 25 Nm and lock it. Install the cover on the upper support.
Secure the shock absorber to the lower support with a force of 35 Nm.
Secure the stabilizer mounting clamp on the rear axle with a force of 35 Nm.
Remove the stands and lower the car onto its wheels.
Rock the car with your hands several times to loosen the joints.
Place the vehicle on a lift and position the hydraulic lift under the rear axle differential.

Raise the vehicle by the rear differential, unloading the stands. In this position, tighten the axle rod mount with a force of 65 Nm.
Remove the car from the lift.
