The removal of the shock absorber strut together with the coil spring is described below.
  • Place the front of the car on stands and remove the wheel.
  • Hold the brake hose on the bracket and unscrew the union nut of the brake pipe. Pull the spring clips out of the hose mount and remove the brake hose from the upper mount.
  • Remove the brake caliper from the steering knuckle. The hose can be left on the brake caliper. Secure the brake caliper to a piece of wire on the front wheel suspension so that it does not sag on the hose.
  • From the bottom of the shock absorber strut, unscrew both nuts shown in Figure 185 and carefully knock out the bolts.

  • Hit the steering knuckle with a soft metal hammer to separate it from the shock absorber strut. If necessary, insert a hardener into the slot and widen it slightly.
  • When replacing the coil spring, remove the dust cap from the strut tunnel and loosen the nut in the middle of the piston rod. Do not unscrew the nut completely.
  • Loosen the three nuts on the upper shock absorber strut support. Have an assistant hold the shock absorber strut from below, otherwise it will fall.
  • Remove the shock absorber strut downwards.
