- Place the front of the car on stands and remove the wheel.
- Hold the brake hose on the mounting bracket and unscrew the brake pipe union nut. Pull the spring clips out of the hose mount and remove the brake hose from the upper mount.
- Remove the brake caliper from the steering knuckle. The hose can be left on the brake caliper. Secure the brake caliper to a piece of wire on the front wheel suspension so that it does not sag on the hose.
- On the bottom side of the shock absorber, unscrew both nuts shown in Figure 185 and carefully knock out the bolts.
Pic. 185. Unscrewing and screwing the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle
- Hit the steering knuckle with a soft metal hammer to separate it from the shock absorber strut. If necessary, insert the hole into the slot and widen it slightly.
- When replacing the coil spring, remove the boot cap from the strut tunnel and loosen the nut in the middle of the piston rod. Do not unscrew the nut completely.
- Unscrew the three nuts of the upper suspension strut support. Have an assistant hold the shock absorber strut from below, otherwise it will fall.
- Pull the shock absorber down.
