Plastic pulley with torsional vibration damper

Fig. 1.103. Plastic pulley with torsional vibration damper

The pulley has a damper for torsional vibrations caused by changes in engine torque, and a safety mechanism that protects the drive belt in the event of a compressor lock. When the compressor locks, the safety pins are destroyed and the pulley begins to rotate independently of the compressor. To reduce weight, the pulley rim is made of plastic (fig. 1.103).

Compressor

Fig. 1.104. Compressor

The compressor consists of a shaft, a disc with pushers, pistons, pads, a working chamber, cylinders and an electromagnetic control valve. An inclined disc with pushers rotates together with the shaft. When the inclined disc rotates, the force is transmitted through the pads to the pistons, which move in the cylinders progressively. Thus, the suction, compression and release of the refrigerant occurs (fig. 1.104).

Fig. 1.105. Working chamber of the air conditioner compressor

The working chamber is connected to the inlet channel. Between the inlet channel (low pressure) and the exhaust channel (high pressure) a control electromagnetic valve is installed. The electromagnetic valve ensures cyclic operation of the compressor cylinders in accordance with signals coming from the control unit or the air conditioner ECU. The control system with an electromagnetic valve ensures a linear change in compressor performance in the range from 0 to 100% (fig. 1.105).

Fig. 1.106. Compressor control solenoid valve

If the control solenoid valve is closed (electromagnet winding under voltage), a pressure difference is created and the pressure in the working chamber decreases. Then the pressure on the right side of the piston becomes higher than the pressure on the left side of the piston. At the same time, the spring is compressed and the disc with the pushers tilts. As a result, the piston stroke increases, thereby increasing the compressor's productivity (fig. 1.106).

If the control solenoid valve opens (the solenoid valve winding is de-energized), the pressure difference disappears. Then the pressure on the left side of the piston becomes equal to the pressure on the right side of the piston. At the same time, the spring is released and eliminates the tilt of the disc with the pushers. As a result, the piston stroke is zero, and the compressor performance becomes zero.

Coolant heater (Tank with heated gas)

Fig. 1.107. Coolant heater

The new model has a heater installed around the hot gas tank to directly heat the refrigerant. This increases the refrigerant pressure, and the heater with hot gas can operate efficiently even at low outside temperatures (around -30°C).

The refrigerant heater operates under the following conditions:

  • the electric heater switch and the fan switch are in the "On" position. ("ON");
  • regulator of the ratio of cold and warm air flows in position "MAX" "HOT";
