Note: The content of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases is regulated by the engine ECU.
Start the engine.
Let the engine run at 2500 min⁻¹ for approximately 180 s.
Insert the gas analyzer probe at least 40 cm into the exhaust pipe (the engine is idling).
Check carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon levels at idle and/or 2500 rpm.
If the carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon levels are not within the emission standards, perform the troubleshooting procedures in the order listed below.
Check the functionality of the heated oxygen sensor.
Possible causes of malfunctions are listed in Table 2.16. Troubleshoot and eliminate them.
