Note: Turn off all electrical equipment and air conditioning.
Note: Check the idle speed with the cooling fan turned off.
Note: When checking the idle speed, place the gear shift lever in neutral.
Checking with diagnostic tool II
Warm up and turn off the engine.

Connect the Hand-Held Diagnostic Tool II to the DLC3 connector (fig. 2.112).
Turn the ignition ON (START).
Select the instrument mode: Powertrain/ Engine and ECT/ Data List/ Engine SPD.
Note: If assistance is required in selecting a Data List data table, please refer to the Handheld Tester II Operation Manual.
Check the idle speed.
Idle speed: 600–700 min⁻¹.
Turn off the ignition (OFF).
Disconnect the intelligent tester II from the DLC3.
Checking without a diagnostic device

Connect SST 09843-18040 to terminal 9 (TAC) of DLC3 connector, then connect tachometer (fig. 2.114).
Note: Before connecting, check the terminal numbers carefully. Shorting other terminals may cause damage to the motor.
Turn the ignition ON (START).
Check the engine idle speed.
Idle speed: 600–700 min⁻¹.
Turn off the ignition (OFF).
Disconnect the tachometer.
Disconnect SST from terminal 9 (TAC).
