FJ60 and 62 cars
Removing the transfer case on these vehicles involves a complete disassembly of the transfer case and is a rather complicated procedure that should be performed in a car service.
FJ80 cars
1. Remove transmission assembly with transfer case (see subsection 7.1.2 and subsection 7.2.8).
2. Clean transmission, remove all hinged brackets and dust covers. Engage the central differential lock (if provided).
3. Place the transmission vertically with the transfer case up. Loosen the box mounting bolts.
4. Careful not to damage the rear oil seal, lift the box and remove.
5. Inspect the seal before installation and replace if necessary.
6. When assembling, turn the transfer case shaft so that its splines match the splines of the transmission shaft.
7. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
