Removing
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Loosen the fan shroud screws.
3. Disconnect the throttle cable and retract the cable towards the transmission.
4. Remove the handle and cover of the transfer case lever.
5. Raise the car and put it on stands.
6. Remove the lower shield and drain the transmission fluid from the transmission and the oil from the transfer case.
7. Remove cardan shafts (see subsection 7.4.3.2).
8. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
9. Disconnect the filler pipe and fluid cooler pipes from the transmission case.
10. On vehicles up to 1992, disconnect the speedometer cable.
11. Disconnect connectors and vacuum hoses from transmission.
12. Disconnect the links from the transmission (A) and transfer box (IN).
13. Remove the starter.
14. Remove the torque converter cover. Mark the position of the torque converter on the drive plate.
15. Unscrew the bolts one by one, turning the crankshaft.
16. Hang the engine and transmission with jacks and unscrew the bolts securing the transmission to the cross member.
17. Slightly raise the transmission and unscrew the bolts and nuts securing the cross member to the frame and remove the cross member.
18. Remove the bolts securing the transmission to the engine from the left (photo on the left) and from the right (photo on the right) (indicated by arrows).
19. Slide the transmission back and remove from the guide pins. Attach the torque converter to the transmission. Lower transmission and get from under the car.
Installation
1. Make sure the torque converter is engaged with the pump and input shaft. To do this, push the torque converter towards the transmission while turning.
2. The correct landing of the torque converter is accompanied by a characteristic sonorous knock.
3. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
4. Align the marks on the torque converter made during disassembly, connect all connectors and hoses.
5. Adjust the traction.
