Throttle body (EJ-series)
Removing
Note:
- When removing and installing, use the assembly drawing "Removal and installation of the throttle body".
- Do not disconnect coolant hoses on a hot engine.
1. Disconnect a wire from the negative plug of the storage battery.
2. (Models with automatic transmission) Disconnect the throttle cable from the engine side.
3. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
4. Disconnect the hoses.
5. Loosen the pinch bolts and remove the throttle body.
Examination
1. Check that there is no excessive play on the throttle body lever.
2. Check that there is no blockage in the throttle body passages.
3. Make sure the throttle opens and closes smoothly.
4. Make sure there is no gap between the screw and the lever when the throttle is fully closed.
5. Check throttle position sensor.
A) Check resistance between terminals "VC" And "E2".
- Rated resistance - 2.5-6.0 kOhm
b) Check resistance between terminals "VTH" - "E2" throttle position sensor.
Check that the resistance varies with the damper opening angle.
Rated resistance:
- throttle fully closed - 0.4 kOhm
- throttle fully open - 3.4 kOhm
6. Check idle speed control valve with oscilloscope (see subsection "Checking the elements of the injection system using an oscilloscope").
Installation
1. Clean mounting surfaces and install a new throttle body gasket.
2. Connect to port (A) evaporative emission system hose going to the EVAP accumulator, and to the port (IN) fuel hose going to the throttle body.
3. Install the strut, temporarily tighten the bolt on the side of the cover, tighten the nut on the side of the intake manifold, finally tighten the bolt.
4. Install the accelerator cable. Adjust the free play of the accelerator cable.
- Free play - 1-5 mm
5. Connect the throttle cable from the engine side.
6. Connect a wire to the negative plug of the storage battery.
