The oil in the rear axle differential is replaced in vehicles with automatic transmission and in all-wheel drive vehicles.

Oil used: Automatic transmission: ATF Dexron-II. All-wheel drive vehicle: APIGL-5 Hypoid: 1 SAE 90.

Automatic transmission



Place the car horizontally on a lift.

Remove the engine and gearbox covers, if present.

Visually check the gearbox for leaks.

Remove the drain plug (arrow in Fig. G-6219). Drain the oil completely and screw the plug back on.

Unscrew the filler plug.

Pour in approximately 1.4 liters of ATF Dexron-II oil and check the level with your finger. The oil should reach the lower edge of the filler hole.

Install it in place and tighten the filler plug, but not too tightly.

Replace the engine and gearbox covers, if equipped.

Remove the car from the lift.

Rear axle differential (all wheel drive vehicle)



Place the car horizontally on a lift.

Visually check the rear axle for leaks.

Unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil. After all the oil has drained, screw the plug back in.

Unscrew the filler plug.

Pour in approximately 1.1 litres of Hypoid oil and check the oil level with your finger. The oil should reach the bottom edge of the filler hole.

Replace the filler plug and tighten it, but not too tightly.

Remove the car from the lift.
