1.3L engines since 8/84 and 1.6L (4A-GE, 4A-GEL)
Reinforced V-belt drive generator and coolant pump
Loosen the nuts of the generator support axle and the set screw.
Remove reinforced V-belt.
Put on a new belt and tighten the nut and set screw.
Check belt tension between alternator and coolant pump pulleys. When pressing the belt with a force of 100 N (~10 kg), which corresponds to strong thumb pressure, a new belt should sag by 3.5-4.5 mm, a used one by 5-6 mm.
Reinforced V-belt for servo pump drive (engines 4A-GE, 4A-GEL)
Loosen the adjusting screw locknut on the idler roller and loosen the roller tension. Remove belt from pulleys.
Put the V-belt on the pulleys and tighten the roller with the adjusting screw.
Check belt tension between crankshaft pulleys and servo pump. When pressing the belt with a force of 100 N (~10 kg), which corresponds to strong thumb pressure, a new belt should sag 6-8 mm, a used one 8-10 mm.
Engines with a displacement of 1.3 liters up to 7/84 and 1.6 liters (4A-L, 4A-F, 4A-FE)
Reinforced V-belt drive generator and coolant pump
Loosen the alternator stub nut and tensioner pulley (Pic. G-1079).
Remove reinforced V-belt.
Put on a new belt and tighten the lock screw nuts.
Check the tension of the belt between the pulleys of the generator and the coolant pump. When pressing the belt with a force of 100 N (~10 kg), which corresponds to the strong pressure of the thumb, the new belt should sag by 8.5-10.5 mm, the former by 10-12 mm.
Reinforced V-belt for servo pump drive (4A-L, 4A-F, 4A-FE)
Loosen the mounting bolts of the mounting lever and tilt the pump towards the engine. Remove belt.
Put the belt on the pulleys and tighten.
Check belt tension between pump and servo pulleys. When pressing the belt with a force of 100 N (~10 kg), which corresponds to strong thumb pressure, a new belt should sag 5-6 mm, a used one 6-8 mm.
Attach the tension lever.
Diesel 1.8 L
Reinforced V-belt drive generator and coolant pump
Loosen the generator tilt axis and adjusting screw.
Tilt the alternator towards the engine and remove the V-belt.
Put on a new belt and tighten the nut and set screw.
Check belt tension between crankshaft and alternator pulleys. When pressing the belt with a force of 100 N (~10 kg), which corresponds to strong thumb pressure, a new belt should sag 9-11 mm, a used one 12-14 mm.
Reinforced V-belt for servo pump drive
Loosen the adjusting screw of the tension roller and remove the drive belt.
Put the belt on the pulleys and tighten it with the adjusting screw.
Check belt tension between crankshaft pulleys and servo pump. When pressing the belt with a force of 100 N (~10 kg), which corresponds to strong thumb pressure, a new belt should sag 11-14 mm, a used one 15-18 mm.
