Pic. 8.3. Side impact absorbing design
To reduce interior distortion, side impact energy is effectively dissipated by the following structural elements: B-pillar outer reinforcements, door inner reinforcements, side guards, upper roof side rails outer reinforcements, floor cross members and floor tunnel reinforcements.
To reduce the deformation of the passenger compartment, an amplifier is built into the B-pillar at the level of the waist line. In addition, the outer reinforcements of the upper side roof bars have been enlarged.
To protect the hips and backs of the driver and passengers from impacts, a crossbar No. 2 was introduced into the design, a crossbar reinforcement No. 1 and partitions inside the thresholds were added.
To reduce deformation during side impacts, energy-absorbing linings are installed in the doors.
To minimize the effects of a side impact, a new impact-resistant design has been introduced along the contour of the door trim.
