1. Locate the air cleaner in the engine compartment (refer to the accompanying illustrations in Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
2. Release the spring clips securing the air cleaner cover (refer to accompanying illustration). Disconnect all hoses interfering with the procedure and remove the cover, try to prevent foreign objects from falling into the air cleaner.
3. Remove the filter element and wipe the inside walls of the housing with a clean rag (refer to accompanying illustration).
4. Visually assess the condition of the filter element; in case of severe contamination, replace it. A moderately clogged filter can be blown out with compressed air (through the back).
Attention! Always wear protective goggles when using compressed air!
The filter element made of wax paper cannot be washed with oils or solvents, if a satisfactory result cannot be obtained by blowing, replace it.
Attention! To avoid premature wear of internal engine components and the occurrence of outbreaks in the exhaust tract, do not operate the car with the air filter removed!
5. Install the replacement filter element, make sure it fits correctly in the casing.
6. Replace the cover and secure it with the spring clips.
7. Make sure that all components of the intake tract are tight and correctly installed.
