Part of the car has 2 pillows, one of which (from the driver's side) mounted in the central part of the steering wheel, and the other - on the right side of the front panel of the cabin. The system also includes a sensor and control unit mounted in the center of the vehicle.
Driver side safety module
The module includes a packed cushion and an inflator (reactor), which is located under the pillow and is connected to it by a hole through which gas is supplied when a signal is received. The signal is sent through a cable wound into a flexible spiral around the rudder shaft, regardless of the rudder angle. The pillow is inflated with nitrogen formed as a result of the reaction of copper oxide and sodium azide.
Passenger side safety module
The structure of the module, located above the box for small items, includes an injection device (reactor), folded pillow, reactor and cladding panel. The passenger airbag is much larger than the driver's airbag. The exterior trim of the cushion cover matches that of the front panel. The cover has a seam that breaks when gas is injected into the pillow (gas is formed by the reaction of iron oxide and sodium azide).
Sensor and diagnostic unit
The unit provides power and deployment of the airbag even when the battery is disconnected. The block checks the status of the security system. System warning lamp (AIR-BAG lamp) first lights up and goes out when the system is working. If the system is faulty, the lamp remains on or flashes (or a beep sounds). In this case, the car should be immediately handed over to a car service for inspection.
Attention! Disable air safety systems.
Warning! Failure to follow these precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and serious injury.
When performing any work near the steering column or any unit of the system, it is necessary to disable the airbags. To do this, do the following:
- set the wheels to the straight ahead position and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position;
- disconnect the battery from the ground;
- start work after at least 90 seconds, i.e. the time it takes for the capacitor to discharge.
When handling the pillow container, always hold the lined side of the container away from you. Do not lay the container with the lined side down. It is forbidden to measure the resistance of any unit of the pneumatic safety system, since the airbag may be triggered by an ohmmeter battery.
Disconnect the yellow airbag connector located under the steering column near the switch combination connector before welding (from the driver's side) or storage box (passenger side).
It is forbidden to throw away the container with the pillow.
