1. Measure the inside diameter of the idler gear.

Nominal size - 44.0-44.025 mm

2. Measure the outside diameter of the idler gear shaft.

Nominal size - 43.965-44.0 mm

3. Calculate the clearance between the shaft and the idler gear.

If the gap is greater than the permissible value (0.025-0.06, maximum 0.2 mm) - replace the idler gear assembly together with the shaft.

4. Smooth rotation of the fuel injection pump drive gear bearing; replace if necessary.

5. Check the engagement clearance (nominal 0.02-0.15 maximum 0.2 mm) If at least one engagement is greater than the permissible value, replace all gears.

6. If necessary, replace the crankshaft seals and fuel injection pump drive gears, see section "Replacing oil seals".
