Note: The indicator on the instrument cluster signals the need to replace the timing belt every 100,000 km. After replacing the timing belt, it is necessary to reset the belt mileage counter, which is part of the speedometer, to zero.
(L series engines)
1. Remove accessory drive belts.
2. Remove the water pump pulley.
3. Remove glow plugs.
A) Remove the plastic protective caps.
b) (Only for preheating system with fixed delay) Remove the four bolts and glow plug wire.
V) (For other types of preheating systems)
- Remove the four nuts securing the glow plug wire.
- Remove the nut securing the glow plug wire to the intake manifold.
- Remove the two heat-insulating elements and the glow plug wire.
G) Remove the four glow plugs with a socket wrench.
4. Remove the crankshaft pulley,
A) Loosen the pulley bolt.
timing belt (L-series): 1 - bolt (M. 3. 167 Nm), 2 - plug, 3 - front timing belt cover, 4 - gasket, 5 - bolt (M. 3. 33 Nm), 6 - bolt (M. 3. 44 N·m), 7 - tension roller No. 2, 8 - bolt (M.Z. 98 N·m), 9 - camshaft pulley, 10 - key, 11 - glow plug wire, 12 - glow plug, 13 - bolt (M. 3. 19 N·m), 14 - tension roller No. 1, 15 - tension spring, 16 - injection pump drive pulley, 17 - nut (M. 3. 64 Nm), 18 - bolt (M. 3. 19 N·m), 19 - crankshaft pulley, 20 - timing belt guide, 21 - timing belt, 22 - crankshaft pulley.
timing belt (1KZ-T): 1 - air hose, 2 - air duct, 3 - valve cover, 4 - gasket, 5 - camshaft sprocket (slave), 6 - timing belt, 7 - clamp, 8 - belt cover, 9 - tensioner pulley, 10 - belt tensioner, 11 - camshaft sprocket (leading), 12 - belt guide flange.
b) Using a puller, remove the pulley.
5. Remove the front timing belt cover.
Remove eleven bolts, washers, timing belt cover, two gaskets and a plug for the TDC indicator.
6. Remove the timing belt guide.
7. Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.
A) Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt. Turn the shaft by the bolt to the TDC of the first cylinder.
b) Check the alignment of the marks located on the camshaft pulley and the rear timing belt cover. If the marks are not aligned, turn the crankshaft one turn (360°).
8. Remove the timing belt. Note: If the belt is to be reused, mark the direction of rotation arrow on the belt and alignment marks on the belt and pulleys.
A) Loosen the bolt (A) #1 tensioner pulley, move it to the left as far as possible.
b) Temporarily tighten the bolt (A) roller.
V) Remove the timing belt.
9. Remove tensioner pulley #1.
A) Remove two bolts (A and B).
b) Loosen the bolt (WITH), remove the bolt, tension roller and spring.
10. Remove the camshaft pulley.
A) Using the special tool, unscrew the pulley bolt.
b) Using a puller, remove the pulley and key.
11. Remove the injection pump drive pulley.
A) Using the special tool, unscrew the pulley bolt.
b) Using a puller, remove the drive pulley.
12. Remove bolt, tensioner pulley #2 and spacer.
13. Remove the crankshaft pulley using a puller.
(Engine 1KZ-T)
1. Remove four bolts, sealing washers, two cover clips, belt cover and gasket.
2. Bring the piston of the 4th cylinder to the TDC of the compression stroke, check the alignment of the alignment marks on the driven and driving pulleys of the camshaft with benchmarks.
3. If the belt is to be reinstalled, chalk the direction of rotation arrow and mark the position of the belt relative to the pulleys.
4. Turn away two bolts of fastening of a tensioner, remove a tensioner.
5. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a roller of a tensioner (internal hexagon 10 mm), remove the video.
6. Remove the camshaft drive belt.
7. Turn away four bolts of fastening of a directing flange of a belt on a leading cogwheel, remove a flange.
8. Remove the intake duct and valve cover.
9. Holding the camshaft, remove the driven toothed pulley mounting bolt, remove the pulley. Don't lose the pin!
