1.Installing the driven toothed pulley of the camshaft.

a) Install the key into the shaft groove.

b) Align the pulley groove with the key and place the pulley on the shaft.

c) While holding the camshaft, tighten the pulley mounting bolt to a torque of 98 N·m.

2. Install the valve cover and air intake duct (see above).

3. Check the alignment of the timing marks on the driven and driving gears of the camshaft with the reference marks (TDC in the 4th cylinder). If the marks do not match, turn the shaft (distributor or crankshaft) until the mark is aligned with the benchmark.

Caution: If the marks are not aligned accurately, the valves may hit the pistons.

4. Place the belt on the gear wheels, align the marks on the belt with the marks on the wheels and observe the direction of rotation mark.

5. Install the washer and tensioner roller. Tighten the mounting bolt to 34 N·m. Check the roller for smooth rotation. If rotation is not smooth, check that the washer is installed correctly.

6. Installing the tensioner.

a) Using a press, slowly push the tensioner plunger into the housing until the holes in the plunger and housing are aligned

b) Insert a 1.5 mm diameter rod into the hole

c) Install the tensioner on the engine, moving the tensioner roller towards the belt. Tighten the two mounting bolts to 13 N·m.

d) Remove the tensioner retaining rod.

7. Turn the crankshaft two turns clockwise, check that all marks are aligned with the benchmarks.
