Status check
1. Loosen the wheel nuts, apply the parking brake, jack up the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove the corresponding wheel.
2. Remove the brake caliper (see Section Removal and installation of brake calipers) and tie it to the side with a wire to the suspension element, without disconnecting the brake hose, take care that the hose is not stretched or twisted.
3. Make a visual check of the condition of both working surfaces of the disk. Light defects can be removed with fine-grained sandpaper. To remove grooves deeper than 0.4 mm, the disc should be removed and machined. Remember that the disc must be inspected from both sides!
4. If pedal pulsations are noticed during braking, the magnitude of the lateral runout of the brake disc should be assessed. Attach plunger type dial gauge (DTI) at a distance of about 12.7 mm from the outer edge of the disc (refer to accompanying illustration). Zero the instrument and start spinning the dial. The result of the measurement should not go beyond the limits specified in Specifications allowable range, otherwise the disk must be given to the groove.
Note. The compilers of this Guide recommend turning the discs, regardless of their condition, in order to remove all kinds of defects from the working surfaces. In extreme cases, you can limit yourself to processing the disk with fine-grained sandpaper.
5. When turning a disc, special attention should be paid to compliance with the requirements Specifications to its minimum allowable thickness, an appropriate marking is provided on the end surface of the disk. The disc thickness is measured at several points using a micrometer.
Removal and installation
1. Remove the ABS sensor from the steering knuckle.
2. Remove the brake pads and caliper.
3. Remove the hub assembly and separate it from the brake disc.
4. Thoroughly wash and inspect the components of the disc/hub assembly.
5. Assemble the hub, install it in its original place and adjust the wheel bearing preload.
6. Reinstall the caliper assembly with brake pads (see Section Removal and installation of brake calipers) and bleed the brake system (see Section Bleeding the brake system).
7. Install the wheels, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts to the required torque (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
