Orientation of the cage and CV joint guide during assembly
1. Large window; 2. Protruding part; 3. Flat side; 4. Expanded part; 5. Narrow end
Removing
1. Remove the hub.
2. Remove front wheel bearings (see subsection 2.39).
3. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the brake shield.
4. If the front brakes are drum brakes, then remove the brake assembly, move it aside and secure it, avoiding sagging on the hose.
5. Use a soft hammer to separate the trunnion from the steering knuckle.
6. Remove the pin.
7. Disconnect connector (indicated by an arrow) and remove the speed sensor (on vehicles with anti-lock braking system).
8. Turn the axle shaft so that the flat on the CV joint housing is facing up.
9. Carefully, so as not to damage the oil seal, remove the axle shaft.
10. Remove seal if necessary (indicated by an arrow) using an impact puller.
Disassembly
1. Clamp the axle shaft in a vise through a soft gasket.
2. Knock out the CV joint with the outer axle by hitting the brass mandrel.
3. Tilt the inner race and remove the hinge balls one by one.
4. Remove the cage assembly with the inner guide from the CV joint housing, to do this, turn the ball cage 90°and align the windows in the cage with the recesses in the housing.
5. Remove the inner guide from the cage, for which orient these parts.
6. Clean the CV joint from grease and inspect. Replace damaged parts.
7. When assembling, lubricate the inner surfaces of the CV joint and the outer shaft with molybdenum grease.
8. Insert the guide into the cage in reverse order.
9. Orient the protruding part of the guide towards the wider part of the cage (see fig. Orientation of the cage and CV joint guide during assembly).
10. Install the cage and guide onto the axle shaft.
Attention! When assembling, the protruding part of the guide and the wider part of the cage must face outward.
11. Install new circlips on the inner shaft.
12. Clamp the axle shaft in a vise and install the outer shaft, securing it with a retaining ring.
13. Make sure the fastening of the outer and inner sections of the axle shaft in the CV joint.
Installation
1. Install a new oil seal (if necessary) and lubricate the splines of the inner shaft.
2. Holding the shaft up, carefully insert it into the differential.
3. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order.
