Orientation of the CV joint cage and guide during assembly
1. Large window; 2. Protruding part; 3. Flat side; 4. Extended section; 5. Narrow part
Removal
1. Remove the hub.
2. Remove the front wheel bearings (see subsection 2.39).

3. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the brake shield.
4. If the front brakes are drum brakes, remove the brake assembly, move it to the side and secure it, preventing it from sagging on the hose.

5. Using a soft hammer, separate the journal from the steering knuckle.

6. Remove the trunnion.

7. Disconnect the connector (indicated by the arrow) and remove the speed sensor (on vehicles with anti-lock braking system).

8. Turn the axle shaft so that the flat on the CV joint housing faces upward.
9. Remove the axle shaft carefully, so as not to damage the seal.

10. Remove the seal if necessary (indicated by the arrow) using an impact puller.
Disassembly
1. Clamp the axle shaft in a vice through a soft pad.

2. Knock out the CV joint with the outer axle by striking the brass mandrel.

3. Tilt the inner race and remove the ball joints one by one.

4. Remove the cage assembly with the inner guide from the CV joint housing by turning the ball cage 90° and aligning the windows in the cage with the recesses in the housing.

5. Remove the inner guide from the frame, for which purpose orient these parts.
6. Clean the CV joint from grease and inspect. Replace damaged parts.
7. When assembling, lubricate the inner surfaces of the CV joint and outer shaft with molybdenum grease.
8. Insert the guide into the sleeve in reverse order.
9. Orient the protruding part of the guide towards the wider part of the frame (see fig. Orientation of the CV joint cage and guide during assembly).
10. Install the collar and guide onto the axle shaft.
Attention! When assembling, the protruding part of the guide and the wider part of the collar must be facing outward.
11. Install new retaining rings onto the inner shaft.

12. Clamp the axle shaft in a vice and install the outer shaft, securing it with a retaining ring.
13. Make sure that the outer and inner sections of the axle shaft are securely fastened to the CV joint.
Installation
1. Install a new seal (if necessary) and lubricate the splines of the inner shaft.
2. Holding the shaft suspended, carefully insert it into the differential.
3. Then the installation is carried out in reverse order.
