Warning: these tests must be carried out within 3-5 seconds to avoid overheating and burning the stator winding.
1. Test the solenoid relay.
A) Disconnect the stator winding wire from the terminal "WITH".
b) Connect the battery cable to the traction relay as shown in the illustration and make sure that the pinion gear has moved out.
Otherwise, replace the starter solenoid relay.
2. Test the holding relay.
With the above connections and the drive gear extended outward, disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal "WITH". Make sure the pinion gear stays out.
3. Check pinion return.
Disconnect the negative wire from the switch body and check that the pinion gear returns to its original position (drawn in). Otherwise, replace the traction relay assembly.
4. Perform tests at idle.
A) Connect the battery and ammeter to the starter as shown.
b) Make sure the starter turns smoothly and evenly. In this case, the starter drive gear must be pulled out, and the current consumption must not exceed 90 A at a voltage of 11.5 V.
