- Before disassembling the shock absorber, the following points should be considered:
- The shock absorber struts of different CARINA-II models vary. This should be taken into account when ordering a new part. In addition, after removing both shock absorber struts, they must not be installed in the same places.
- Never clamp the shock absorber strut in a vice, but make a board to which the strut can be screwed. The board can then be clamped in a vice. Disassemble the shock absorber strut only if there is a spring tension device to unload the spring when unscrewing the piston rod bolt.
- In accordance with Figure 186, compress the coil spring until it separates from the supports on both sides.

- Unscrew the piston rod nut from the inside of the upper support.
- Remove all parts of the upper support from the shock absorber strut, and then the coil spring. Details are shown in Figure 187.

Clamp the shock absorber in a vice in a vertical position and pull it out, and then recess the piston rod. If at the same time there are "dead" zone, or when recessed the piston rod enters the cup unevenly, the shock absorber strut must be replaced as a set.
Wash all parts with clean gasoline and dry with compressed air. The parts should be free of dust and dirt. Replace worn or damaged parts with new ones. The following are subject to special control: deformation of the rubber bumper, deformation of the dust seals, damage to the shock absorber housing, bending of the piston rod. The steering knuckle can only be professionally checked in a workshop.
