Check the integrity of the drive disk and basket. If damaged, replace both parts as a set. Check the integrity of the driven disk springs and splines, disk. Oily linings cannot be cleaned, in which case the driven disk should be replaced. Check the possibility of reinstalling the clutch linings by measuring the distance from the surface of the linings to the upper surface of the rivet heads with a depth gauge (Fig. 156). If the measurement result is less than 0.30 mm, the disk should be replaced. The disk should also be replaced if this dimension is reached soon. Check the runout of the driven disk, for which purpose insert it on the appropriate rod or clutch shaft into the centers of the lathe and install a dial indicator on the stand next to the disk so that the measuring probe of the indicator is pressed against the edge of the disk. Slowly turn the disk and read the readings of the dial indicator (Fig. 157). If the result exceeds 0.8 mm, you can carefully straighten the disk with pliers. Otherwise, replace the disk. Check the movement of the driven disk along the splines of the clutch shaft. To do this, put the driven disk on the shaft and hold the edge of the disk with your fingers. Turn the disk in both directions. If the play is more than 0.4 mm, there is wear of the spline engagement, most often caused by the driven disk. Check the wear of the inner ends of the diaphragm spring. If there are deep grooves, the clutch should be replaced as a set. All ends of the diaphragm spring should be located at the same height of up to 0.5 mm. Bent ends should be straightened. A special tool is usually used for this (Fig. 158), but you can also straighten the ends with a steel strip with a slot. Lubricate the contact points of the release lever and the release clutch. With the clutch removed, you should also check the wear of the flywheel working surface, especially if the clutch slipped. If there is a pointer indicator, check the skew of the working surface. To do this, install the indicator as shown in Figure 159 and slowly turn the flywheel. If the difference in indicator readings exceeds 0.10 mm in one revolution, remove the flywheel for replacement.
