- Fill the slave cylinder reservoir with brake fluid. Do not tighten the plug yet.
- Place a transparent plastic hose over the air release valve and lower its other end into a glass container half filled with brake fluid, as shown in Figure 167.
Pic. 167. Removing air from the hydraulic clutch system
- Open the air release valve approximately one third of a turn.
- While pumping slowly, have an assistant press the clutch pedal all the way (Pic. 168).
Pic. 168. Press the clutch pedal evenly to remove air from the hydraulic system.
- Slowly release the pedal and repeat the pumping process until no more air bubbles come out of the plastic hose.
- Holding the clutch pedal against the stop, tighten the air bleeder valve.
- Disconnect the hose from the air release valve and put on the protective cap.
- After removing the air, start the engine, press the clutch pedal and engage reverse gear. If engagement occurs without squeaking, the clutch operates normally.
- After removing the air, add brake fluid to the reservoir and close the reservoir cap. Wash off all traces of brake fluid.
- When carrying out air removal work, make sure that the master cylinder reservoir is filled with brake fluid at all times, otherwise air may enter the system again. In addition, the fluid level in the tank must be regularly monitored, since this is the only way to prevent air from entering the system.
