The speed control function allows you to drive the car at a desired speed above 40 km/h, even if you take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
The speed can be maintained at a higher or lower level within the engine characteristic, although a small change in speed may occur when upshifting or downshifting. On steep slopes, a greater change in speed may occur, so it is better to drive the car without resorting to the cruise control.
Note: To ensure maximum control over the vehicle's movement, do not use cruise control when driving in heavy traffic or changing traffic conditions or on slippery surfaces (wet, covered with ice or snow) roads and in strong winds. Avoid increasing speed when driving downhill. If the vehicle is too fast, turn off the cruise control and downshift to use engine braking to slow down.
Turning the system on and off
To control the tempostat, press the button "CRUISE ON OFF". At the same time, the illuminated control lamp on the dashboard will indicate that the desired vehicle speed can now be set. The second press will completely turn off the system.
Note: To avoid accidentally turning on the thermostat, hold the switch "CRUISE ON OFF" off if you are not using the thermostat.
Selecting a cruising speed
1. Accelerate the car to the required speed, press the regulator down in the direction of "SET/COAST" and release it, then the selected speed mode will be maintained by the cruise control automatically.
2. If the speed is not satisfactory, move the lever up for a faster speed or move it down for a slower speed. Each push changes the speed setting by 1.6 km/h. Once the speed is set, you can take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
3. When acceleration is required, such as when overtaking, press the accelerator pedal hard enough to exceed the set speed. If you release the pedal, the car will return to the speed set before acceleration.
Cancel the selected speed mode
1. You can cancel the selected speed mode by pressing the brake pedal or by pulling the lever in the "CANCEL" direction and releasing it.
2. If the vehicle speed drops below 40 km/h, the selected speed mode will be automatically cancelled.
3. If the vehicle speed drops more than 16 km/h below the selected value, the cruising settings will also be automatically cancelled.
4. If the selected speed mode is cancelled for any reason other than those listed above, have the vehicle checked by a Toyota or Lexus representative at the earliest opportunity.
Return to cruise mode after forced speed reduction
1. Push the lever upward in the direction of "RES/ACC" and hold it in this position. Release the lever when the desired speed is reached. While the lever is pressed, the car will gradually gain speed.
2. However, to return to a higher speed more quickly, accelerate the vehicle and then press the lever down in the "SET/COAST" direction.
Return to cruise mode after forced acceleration
1. Press the lever down in the direction of "SET/COAST" and hold it in this position. Release the lever when the desired speed is reached. While the lever is pressed, the car will gradually slow down.
2. However, to return to a lower speed more quickly, slow down the vehicle and then press the lever down in the "SET/COAST" direction.
3. Even if you disengage the upshift with the cruise control on, engine braking will not be performed because the cruise control is not turned off. To reduce the vehicle speed, return to a slower speed using the cruise control lever or by pressing the brake pedal. If the brake pedal is used, the cruise control will be turned off.
Resuming the preset speed
1. If the preset speed has been cancelled by shifting the governor lever or pressing the brake pedal, pressing the lever upward in the "RES/ACC" direction will restore the speed set before cancellation.
2. However, if the vehicle speed drops below 40 km/h, the preset speed will not be resumed.

Warning signal about malfunction in the cruise control system
1. If the "CRUISE" indicator light on the instrument panel flashes while using the cruise control, press the button "CRUISE ON OFF" to turn off the system, and then press the button again to turn on the system.
2. If one of the following occurs, there is a fault in the temperature control unit.
- The indicator lamp does not light.
- The indicator light flashes again.
- The indicator lamp goes out after lighting up.
