Attention! Do not proceed with the procedures until the engine has completely cooled down. See also the warnings at the beginning of the Section Antifreeze - general information.
Radiator
Radiator installation elements
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Empty the cooling system (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance). If the coolant was recently changed, keep it for future reference (see warning in Section Antifreeze - general information). If equipped, remove the oil pan.
3. Release the clamps and disconnect the upper and lower hoses from the radiator (refer to illustration above).
Note. If the hose «soured» and cannot be removed, rotate it on the nozzle with large tongs, try not to damage the fitting.
4. Disconnect the overflow hose from the radiator neck.
5. Disconnect the air tube from the top of the radiator.
6. Remove the cooling fan assembly with its shroud (see Section Check of a condition, removal and installation of the fan of system of cooling).
7. On models with AT, disconnect the ATF cooler hoses from the radiator, get ready to collect the spilled liquid, immediately plug the open ends of the union nodes.
8. If necessary, remove the battery and its mounting tray (see chapter Engine electrical equipment).
Note. On some models, the radiator can be removed without removing the battery first.
9. Remove the front grille (see chapter Body).
10. Turn out bolts of fastening of a radiator.
11. Remove the radiator, try not to splash coolant or cut your fingers on the sharp edges of the heat exchanger plates.
12. Once removed from the vehicle, the radiator can be inspected for signs of leaks, damage, and heat exchanger leaks. Any repairs should be carried out only in a specialized workshop using the necessary equipment.
13. The remains of insects and vegetation can be removed from the space between the heat exchanger plates by blowing with compressed air (don't forget to wear safety goggles!), or scrubbing with a soft brush. Take care not to bend the thin heat exchanger plates or cut your fingers on them. Before installation, the radiator must be flushed by introducing water through a garden hose.
14. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the radiator is correctly positioned on its supports and that the fasteners of all components are securely tightened.
15. Upon completion of installation, fill the system with coolant of the required composition (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
16. Start the engine and check it for signs of leaks. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (both radiator hoses should feel hot to the touch). Check the coolant level, if necessary add the appropriate amount of the mixture of the required composition.
17. On models with AT, check the ATF level, if necessary, make the appropriate adjustment.
Expansion tank
1. On most models, in order to release the expansion tank from the support bracket located next to the battery, simply pull it up, do not forget to first disconnect the overflow hose.
2. Drain the coolant into the prepared container, then inspect the tank walls for cracks and other mechanical damage, replace if necessary.
3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
